Hoover U9145-900 "Z" 700 Bagless Upright Vacuum

Hoover U9145-900 "Z" 700 Bagless Upright Vacuum

Price: $179.79
Manufacturer: Hoover
Buy from amazon.com

Hoover "Z" 700 Bagless Upright vacuum is the world's first Sport Utility Vacuum. The patent pending Z-fold design offers the performance of an upright and the flexibility and stability of a canister. The patent pending Self-Cleaning Hepa filter cleans itself every 6 seconds. Fine dirt and dust are trapped by the filter as it rotates while the larger particles fall into the dirt cup. As it reaches the cleaning position, a combination of reverse flow and gentle tapping releases the fine dirt and dust from the filter. Dirt and dust fall into the dirt cup. The filter continues to turn and the next section is cleaned. The DigiTouch Control Pad allows for the ease of simply touching the desired setting and having it automatically adjust the On/Off switch, Automatic Carpet Height Settings, Automatic Hard Surface Settings, Gentle brush settings, and diagnostic indicators. The Telescoping Quick Release Wand with Super Stretch Hose gives you 20 feet of cleaning reach for easy stair cleaning, and the hose swivels 360 degrees so it won't kink or topple the vacuum. In addition, the Z comes with a Pet Hair Cleaning Tool, Lifetime LED Headlights, Extra 16" Cleaning Wand and a 14" Floor Brush as well as a 35 foot power cord. The Z 700 also has a 2 Year Warranty and is virtually Maintenance Free. No belts, bulbs, bags, or filters to replace...ever.

Product Reviews

Definitely a very good vacuum cleaner
I've had my Hoover 700 for 6 weeks now and everytime I use it I tell myself I should add my review for this cleaning machine. I think buying a new vacuum cleaner is like buying a car... you know your going to be using it for quite awhile and you definitely want to make the right choice!

Overall, I'm more than happy that I chose this machine. After using it quite a bit I have only found a couple things I'm not overly happy with.

Here are my positives:
1) Does a great job of cleaning. I'm very satisfied with the basic job it does vacuuming. To be honest, I don't see how any other machine could do a better job. I replaced an 9 year old Hoover with this one and this EASILY out performs my old one (and I remember paying about $300 for it).
2) The wide tread is really a bonus and my carpet looks much better after cleaning... with the wheel's far to the outside the carpet ends up being fluffed up uniformly .. doesn't have much of the ... 'hey, I just vacuumed 2 minutes ago' look.
3) the conversion from canister to upright really does give you the best of both worlds. If you vacuum stairs this machine is a no brainer. In the folded position it is way stable.
4) The big surprise feature that I didn't know it had was an automatic shutoff if the brush becomes 'jammed'. I guess I'm a littel lazy sometimes and I will leave a pair of shoes out and kind of push them out of the way as i vacumm. Well, sometimes I catch the laces and this machine will detect the resistance and shut off!! I've ruined many laces over the years and had a hard time getting them out of my old machine. Well, I caught some laces again and the vacuum quickly shut down. GREAT bonus feature!!!
5) This maybe a common feature but I didn't have it on my old vacuum. When you put this vacuum in the hardfloor setting the brush's stop so now I'm not shooting small pieces dirt around on my kitchen floor.
6) I didn't think looks was important but I really like the fact that this doesn't look like a standard vacuum. I have a bird and I vacuum the family room everyday.. first thing when I get home from work. I leave this Hoover out many times and when it is in it's folded position it is very unobtrusive. This is another real plus... it doesn't look like you have a vacuum sitting out.
7) It is much quieter than other vacuums I've tried.
8) I like the material the power cord is made out of. It is very pliable and has a slick coating... it does not tend to want to tangle like my old machine (big plus).
9) The telescoping handle is great even in the upright position. It really lets you clean a big area from one standing area.
10) The hose on this machine is very well designed... really pliable and expandable but kind of folds back into itself.. I'm sure alot of effort went into its design. Neat.

My not so positives:

1) The power cord/attachment compartment is too small for this model with the power cleaning attachment inside. You have to be very carfull how you wrap the cord and where the plug is located if you want to latch the cover down with no issues. My solution is to not store the power cleaning attachment in the compartment. Definitely not a plus.
2) Sometimes I have to giggle the machine by the handle to get the machine to release and fold down when I'm done with it... It seems to want to be in just the right upright position for that task.
3) The on board self cleaning filter is supposed to never need changing so this may not be a minus but if you ever do WANT to replace it, the instructions indicate it is not a task you can do at home.. you have to take it to a Hoover Service center.

Neutral:
1) The vacuum does take a little upper arm strengh to opperate. If you have very little I don't think this vacuum is for you however it is not that bad (although first reaction is that the vacuum is 'heavy' it soon does not seem to be an issue). But, I don't think I would like this vacuum as much if it was super light weight. I like it's stability in the folded position when I'm using the hose.. and I think the weight helps in the quailty of it's cleaning power... so it is a dual edged sword.

If you have a little upper arm strength I think this is a vacuum definitely worth the investment (again if you vacuum stairs too this machine is almost a no brainer).

Hoover Z 700 Bagless Vacuum
I have never felt compelled to write a review on any other product before, but I would like to share my opinion about my new Hoover Z 700. I absolutely love it! Plus I should say right off the bat that I got mine at Best Buy for a full $100.00 cheaper than everywhere else I price checked!
It's everything it advertises, has more than adequate suction and is extremely versatile. It's especially useful for use on stairs. I previously had an old WindTunnel that has served me well over the years. Mind you, I vacuumed every week with my old machine, but the first time I used my Hoover Z....I had to empty the dirt cup 5-6 times! I was astonished. I considered my new vacuum purchase for a long time and was leaning toward the Dyson Animal. I'm definitely happy with my purchase of the Hoover Z....it performs like I'd wanted and the price was much cheaper than the Dyson. It's surprisingly quieter than vacuums I had in the past and didnt scare my cats to death like my old one. Plus, asthetically....it looks really cool.

The only cons in my opinion are that it's a little heavy...and the motorized brush pet hair tool is not as great as I expected.

UPDATE ON REVIEW
Hoover has done an excellent job in the design of this machine, they have incorporated the latest technology in filtration and design. It can be used either as a canister or an upright, on carpet and hard surface floors, upholstery and blinds. Once you take the Z into a room you can do the floors clean the overhead fan, in other words, do the whole job. This vacuum is solid! It has the feel of quality. They did not skimp on features. Extra long cord, can do several rooms from one outlet. The hose length will allow you to do a flight of stairs with no problem. The wide cleaning head and power brush allow for less time in a room.

UPDATE:
Have had this a little over a year now. Repair Problems! Contacting Hoover, now owned by Dirt Devil is an excercise in patience. They showed no knowledge of this discontinued model. I need a small rubber part which they could not locate. I will have to take it to a repair shop. I would rate this product at about two stars no because of the problems that I have experienced since my first review. Current pricing is far below the $500.00 when first available.

Amazon.com Review
This powerful upright vacuum harnesses the power of Hoover’s WindTunnel technology--a patented air flow design that prevents dirt and debris from being redistributed back onto the carpet or into the air. Powered by a robust 12-amp motor, it features a unique twin-chamber design. Eliminating the hassle and ongoing expense of changing disposable bags, the catch chamber has an easy-to-empty dirt cup with a tightly sealed lid that won’t let grime escape. The HEPA filter chamber makes the U5700 a great choice for allergy and asthma sufferers, capturing even the finest dust and allergy-causing micro-particles that other vacuums miss or re-circulate.
This vacuum comes with a full suite of on-board tools for above-surface cleaning or vacuuming hard-to-reach areas, including an attached hose, two extension wands, a dusting brush, furniture nozzle and crevice tool. Powerful suction and automatic tool conversion make these add-ons as useful as the vacuum itself. Hoover’s unique edge groomers remove dirt next to baseboards and furniture that most vacuums miss, and a headlight illuminates dark crevices and underneath furniture. A carpet-height setting adjusts to different cleaning conditions, and the vacuum cleans in a 15-inch path. This vacuum cleaner has been factory reconditioned, meaning it was returned to the manufacturer, who restores the appliance to like-new condition without the brand-new price. Some models may have cosmetic blemishes. Purchase includes a six-month warranty. --Mary Park

Scared about Remanufactured Products
Dont be scared. I was very unsure about the quality but bought the product anyway. I was very pleased and still use the product daily with no complaints. The price was great and the product is great.

excellent suction
I like this bag less vacuum. It has good suction. I used it in my carpet floor and it produces 2 bag full of dirt.

It's been great!
This has been a great vacuum so far. We can do the entire house from one electrical socket due to the long cord. It has worked great for us!

Product Reviews

Amazon.com Review
Vacuuming becomes a pleasure, not a chore, with this self-propelled bagless upright. A special switch activates the self-propel function, allowing the vacuum to glide with little effort over floors and carpet. The function may be switched off for greater control in tight spaces, such as under tables or chairs. A separate but stored-on-board power hand tool is perfect for cleaning carpeted stairs and upholstery; it simply attaches to the vacuum hose, which stretches to five times its length and gains further reach with the included extension wands (an additional 20-foot hose can be purchased separately). Other tools include a dusting brush for books, lamps, and blinds; a furniture nozzle for upholstered furniture, drapes, clothing, and automobile interiors; and a crevice wand for edges along baseboards, dressers, and between sofa cushions. The height of the cleaner can be adjusted for use on both thick carpet and wood or linoleum floors, and a headlamp illuminates dark areas under furniture and in closets.

Dust and dirt are suctioned up thoroughly with this powerful12-amp vacuum. The patented WindTunnel technology with dual air stream and special ducts ensures that particles aren’t sent back out onto the floor but are captured by three filters. The pre-filter screens larger particles, the HEPA cartridge traps tiny particles of allergens such as dust mites, grass pollen, and ragweed, and the final filter assists in returning clean air to the room. The pre-filter and HEPA cartridge can be removed for periodic cleaning, though the HEPA will need to be replaced every three years or so. To empty the dirt cup, simply remove, shake contents into a trash bin, and press back into place. A one-year warranty covers the vacuum against defects.

Great machine!
I bought this just today, so if something happens adversely in the future, I'll update my review. However, just for today, I am DELIGHTED with this machine. Very powerful suction, and the "bagless" feature allows you to see exactly how dirty your carpet really is! We vacuum regularly (2-3 times weekly) , but this machine picked up almost a full cannister of carpet fluff, plus about 1/4 cup of gritty dirt, just from the living room. The machine I had been using was anotherr Hoover upright, about 4 years old, but half the amperage of the new model. I decided to replace it because I wanted to try a bagless model.
The dirt collection/filter cannister is quite easy to remove and, since it's transparent, it makes it quite easy to see when you need to empty it. I look forward to saving $$$ on vacuum bags!
The "self-propulsion" feature is nice and does make a difference.
The attachments (hand tools) are good, especially the powerbrush. A nice feature is that you don't have to readjust the machine to "hard floor" setting from "carpet" when using the handtools--a convenient change from the other upright vacuums I've owned.
My reason for not giving this model four stars instead of five was in the relative awkwardness of using the handtools with this upright--but that is probably going to be true with any upright. Hoover offers the option of purchasing an extension to the hose, so I might try that.

Excellent!
I just got the Hoover windtunnel self propelled bagless upright and absolutely love it. I was going to get the hoover upright that wasn't self propelled, however, this one was on sale and the same price. I am so happy I did. I am no weakling, but the self propelled feature is wonderful to use. It doesn't move by itself, but assists as you gently guide it along. I never thought I would need or like self propelled but now I'm hooked.

We have 3 cats in our household so I clean several times a week. I filled the canister with cat "fuzz" just from the family room. I never realized just how poorly my old vacuum cleaned, or else this one cleans better than imaginable. The bagless feature is great, not only is it easy to remove and dump but I like the dial that cleans the hepa filter. You just turn the dial and dump the dust that is brushed off the filter, and there was a lot of dust! I never had a bagless vacuum before, but when I dumped the canister, I saw that I had vacuumed up some change and the back of an earing. If I had used a bagged model they would have been thrown away.

The hand held tools are so easy to use. Just put the hoover in the upright position and the suction goes to the hose. Everything is so easy and straight forward even my husband could use it without ever looking at the manual first. I don't think I will ever enjoy vacuuming, but now I don't consider it a chore.

A very good vacuum
I purchased this vacuum after my old Fantom one bit the dust (no pun intended). The Hoover vacuum has some really nice features that I looked for when researching which vacuum to buy. Some new features I liked was I didn't need to unravel the entire cord from the vacuum in order to get to use the on-board attachments (big plus), the canister to pulls out VERY easily to empty the dirt and loads back in VERY easily (unlike my old vacuum that I had to play with the cansiter for 5 minutes until it clicked into place). This Hoover vacuum also has the rotating brush attachment which is very nice for my staircase. The only things I would change if I could would have to be the weight of the vacuum (very heavy to lift up & down the stairs). I would also like to see the dirt empty out from the canister easier. There are too many little crevises for the dirt to attach to & it ends up not falling out properly so I have to get my hands dirt to empty it properly. Other than those two things, I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this model to anyone wanting a very good quality vacuum. Also, a top magazine company rated this vacuum excellent which is why I seeked out this model.

Don't waist your $$, time or sanity!!!
The Freakn' Bagless Hoover Windtunnel:

1. There are two filters that need to be changed every 6-12 months (yah, right...more like every three months) and they cost oh, between $38-$50 depending on where you can find them...Wal-Mart? No, they don't carry this type...Target? If you are really lucky. Sears carries them, for about $49.00 a pop...and that is just one filter...you need 2.
2. You can't empty these puppies in the house because you have to tap (more like beat) the filter on the side of the garbage can and dust goes EVERYWHERE, YUCK! So, what do you do? You take it outside to beat it in the garbage can, then with the smallest gust of wind you are covered, COVERED, I'm talking an abominable brown snowman, with dust and dead spiders and anything else you sucked up thinking it was gone forever.
3. The screen...yes, not only the filter needs to be cleaned after EVERY...and I mean with EVERY use..there is this fancy little screen that you have to pull up and pick the caked on "microdust" off of and what do you use to do that???? Well, if you are on the ball (which I rarely am) you remembered your small wire brush...but if you didn't you can't really run back in the house holding this nasty dirty thing flinging yuck all over your house...so, you use your finger nail, yes, desperate times call for desperate measures.
4. It burns through belts...twice a year at least (they either break or stretch) not a huge expense, but a lame and time consuming one.
5. It looses suction, bad, after about 10-15 minutes of vacuuming, and then you have to do the whole filter cleaning all over again.
6. The attachment hose pops out ALL THE TIME. SO, you either learn to vacuum holding the hose down and in...or (more probably) you get it in there really good and pray it doesn't come out and resolute to never touch it again.
7. BOTTOM LINE: I have had this Windtunnel for about 2 years, I was not impressed the first time I used it...furious the first time I had to empty it...but I thought, well, maybe it will grow on me....Um, No. I actually stopped vacuuming, I hated it, I hated the waste of time for practically no reward, I hated the dust everywhere, I hated the expense, don't waste your time, money and sanity.
8. Okay, with all that said, I purchased a sweet little vacuum from Wal-mart a few months ago, and I have been waiting to find something wrong with it to pop up but I has not been disappointing yet. I have gone through 1 bag, (I vacuum almost everyday with 2 toddlers), but the bags are really compact I was surprised how much they hold. The light went off to change the bag and it took a whole, oh, 30 seconds for the whole process, the dirt was gone, in the garbage, just like that. And the suction is amazing. Go get this vacuum, today. Do not waist anymore brain cells on a bagless. !!!GE 12 AMP, 2 motor, home cleaning system!!! It's a canister and sucks like...well, something that sucks really, really great! Lol, I actually love to vacuum, really! Plus, the best part...it is only a little over $100.00 and it has a filter but it comes free with the bags. Cool. Get this vacuume today...now...go!

A Terrible Vacuum -- Avoid at all Costs
I just ordered a Eureka from Amazon after struggling for a year with this piece of junk. This vacuum is so heavy and clumsy that it is difficult too maneveur--even with the propelled motor feature. The attachment hose on the right side of the vacuum pops out all the time. This same hose, which is the main hose into the waste receptacle, is supposed to be used with the attachments. Because it pops out when doing regular vacuuming, I find that I have to vacuum the same spot over again to enable it to suction through the base unit. The stair cleaner attachment broke after one use. And the hose is so short that I just gave up on vacuuming the stairs with it. The vacuum jammed in the upright position, causing the roller to remain up, and I had to get it repaired twice. But the worst thing about this vacuum is the bagless feature. All the dust gets sucked into a plastic container. As soon as you open the container to empty the dust, the dust gets all over everything. It is a mess. The air around the vacuum gets filled with tiny particles and the vacuum gets dusty. And the filter in the vacuum gets caked with dust. I've had to rinse it off numerous times, which is nearly impossible to clean and dry due to the folds in the filter. I set it outside to dry for two days and when I put it back in the vacuum, it mildewed. I finally threw out the filter and bought a new one, but after one use, it was a mess again. This is the last Hoover I will ever own. If I could give it "0" stars I would. Whatever happened to the Hoover quality of yesteryear? Save your money and check out another brand.

Good performance, not so user friendly.
Well I looked around and find places like amazon really helpful. A place like consumer reports is nice, but sometimes I feel they are driven by factors other than the consumer's interests. Amazon is the closest thing I've found to real customer feedback.

As for the Hoover Windtunnel U5753-900:

Pros: It's a very powerful Vacuum cleaner. It does a really good job at getting up pet hair, dust, and dirt. The dirt finder is a really cool option. I'm surprised at sometimes when I can't see stuff with the naked eye the dirt finder can tell me if the vacuum is still picking up dirt. The hoover seems to be solidly built. It's a very well priced vacuum for it's performance level. It's tools are logically laid out and easy to use.

Cons: There are two major cons to this vacuum. One it's noisy. That really doesn't bother me, as I've owned hoovers in the past and they all seem to be sort of noisy. That's a small downside to me, but others may find it more annoying. The major downside is emptying the vacuum. This does not seem like a very well though out design. I have figured out a trick to cleaning the vacuum that I'll explain later. But you cannot empty this vacuum cleaner in the house. It's clumsy and not at all simple to remove dirt from the vacuum.

My trick to emptying and cleaning this vacuum are to use my garage shop vac in my driveway with the bristle tool. It makes cleaning the hoover a very easy task. 2 minutes tops. That being said I shouldn't have to use a seperate vacuum to clean my new vacuum. Not to mention not everyone has the luxury, need, or desire to own a second vacuum cleaner for messy duties.

The windtunnel's majors selling point is it's performance price point. If Hoover came up with a better design to empty this vacuum they'd earn much higher marks from me. As it stands this vacuum gets a broze metal. Close, but needs improvement in it's emptying design.
